Nathan (& Weekend) Update #9

No real change with Nathan, except the docs have a hard time hearing his heart murmur unless he is totally still and quiet now. When we first came in it was much more prominent apparently, and they could hear it with no trouble even with lots of noise and movement. The murmur is not directly related to the hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, but is still in his heart and therefore, related. They are guardedly optimistic that this means his heart is doing better overall. They are all anxious to see his next echocardiogram on the 14th. So are we.

Saturday I stayed with the sweet little man in the hospital while Max went to visit Hannah and Graham. Originally the plan was for them to come visit us, but they have been under the weather. Not wanting to possibly risk making Nathan sick(er), Max headed out to Grandma & Pops' house by himself. The kids were ecstatic. I'm sure that is an understatement! Hannah has started to get really homesick by now, so she was sooo excited to see her Daddy.

Sunday, since the kids were feeling so much better, I took a turn and went to visit them while Max stayed with Nathan. Aren't my parents cute? They look good even when they are totally exhausted and imposed upon after taking care of my children for 2 weeks. (Thank you, thank you, thank you again & again!!!) When I got back to the hospital I was telling Max that I can tell Hannah has been hanging out with my mother. She is learning to identify different types of birds, flowers, and she now knows where blueberries come from - not just Super Target. (And yes, we have Blueberries For Sal, but we just haven't read it in a long time!)

This is Hannah with one of Grandma's blueberry bushes. Isn't this cool? And they taste great too. In fact, I think that this is Graham's new favorite fast food - you just run by and grab some berries. I think that's why all the ripe ones are gone. :)

Mr. Chocolate Chip Cookie Face (No matter what I do this will not stay centered. Blogger is a little crazy.)

I had a really great time playing with H & G - they're such great little kids! I really miss them. I know they don't really understand what's going on or if they will ever get to go back home. I just keep trying to reassure them. I had some good snuggle/talking time with Hannah before she had her nap. We talked about Nathan and why Mama & Daddy are with him so much at the hospital. We talked about how happy we will be when we can all be together again. I asked her how she felt about Nathan being in the hospital and she said, "It hurts my heart". Sweet, sweet girl. It hurts mine too.

I ended the day back at the hospital with Max. He was leaving to go out of town for work the next day and couldn't spend the night. This random self-photo isn't bad, eh? Who knew hospital light was so flattering. :)

And that's the weekend wrap-up. I hope you had a good one!
