Nathan is doing well. He had a follow-up cardiac appointment this week where they repeated his EKG and echocardiogram. It made me nervous waiting for the results even though it was only a few minutes, and even though I know he is feeling better. But the results were quick and good. His EKG was, I quote, beautiful, and the echo showed further improvement since two weeks ago. We don't have to go back for another follow-up for three months! And the doctor said he wouldn't be surprised if Nathan's heart is back to normal by then. The consensus is that the HCM was caused by the steroid treatment for his seizures, and should return to normal. For now we just keep giving him his medication every six hours around the clock and make sure he's not getting dehydrated. So much better than a month ago when they were telling us the main symptom of his heart problem was sudden death. !!!!!And now for the seizure update. I've been hesitant to talk about it. Things are going really well, but I just keep expecting it to all revert back to the way it was before. Every other time he had improvement in seizure activity, that's what happened, so I guess I'm feeling a little gun-shy. :) But the truth is that he has not had any of the big cluster seizures (infantile spasms) in two weeks and 3 days. Seventeen days. Seventeen days. And I tell you that he is a different baby. Or rather, much more himself. Nathan is so much more alert, awake, talking, moving around, trying to turn over, holding his head up again, watching people/toys/etc. much more, eating better, etc. It's really great! He does still have smaller seizures and seizure-y behavior, gets agitated, etc., but nothing like before. I called the special specialist (have I mentioned him yet? He's a pediatric epileptologist. Another really nice doctor.) for a two week update and they were really happy to hear about the progress. We'll drive in to the specialty clinic at the hospital in a couple of weeks for an appointment & I'm interested to hear their thoughts by then.
Thank you for your continued prayer for Nathan! Maybe sometime I will have the time and brain power to relay all the ways the Lord has been leading us during this difficult time. He is so good and so faithful! You really can trust Him with everything (just in case you were wondering).
Little Man practicing sitting in the Bumbo chair. He's wobbly and gets tired quickly, but is working hard to do it!!(Thanks Aunt Amy!)
